Coral Bliss!

I had this client That wanted me to turn this dresser into a tv console. So the first thing I did was remove the three drawers across the top and their sliders as well. It’s pretty easy to do and it makes a really nice shelf to put your DVD player, DVR and game consoles. This dresser had so much potential and I was super excited for this project. And the best part about this project was she wanted me to paint it a coral/pink color.

I was so excited about this because having a house full of boys I don’t find myself painting or decorating much with pinks. I love adding color to life and this was going to be a great color to paint.

I found a color that she loved and started painting. And of course I added BB Frösch chalk paint powder to the paint I bought from Home Depot. After painting I waxed it with the clear wax then the dark wax to give it a more vintage feel.

Here is a picture of the piece. It was pretty hard to capture the true color with my camera but this is really close.

Here is a close up of some of the details on this piece. Adding the dark wax really brings it out and gives it a different look.

When my client saw it she was so excited when she saw it and she loved it! I was glad because this color is bold and makes a statement so I really wanted to make sure she was satisfied. The end results is really pretty. Sorry I didn’t stage it well, I’ll try to be better with that but for now I just wanted to share with you the beautiful finished product.

With BB Frösch your choices are endless in color because you can mix it with any color paint you choose!  Don’t you think this world needs a little more color? I do. 😊

Amazing transformation over here!!

Have you ever seen that piece of furniture and wondered what in the world were they thinking when they tried to refinish it? I haven’t seen a whole lot so far but this one is definitely it! I love that whoever owned this piece of furniture tried to be adventurous and think outside the box but I wonder if they just gave up after?

Well, we found it and my husband showed it to me and said we should buy it. 😳 I was like “what?” 😂 but I agreed. Then he brought it home and I just thought to myself “this is going to take a lot of work!”

After a closer look I realized that they removed the original hardware and used little knobs instead of pulls. It had all sorts of patched up bubbly sections on the front and when I touched it a piece of metal stabbed me.

I’m so grateful for a supportive husband that sanded and removed all the metal spikes. He’s the best! Check out this before picture! ⬇️

Wasn’t it a mess? Oh my word yes! But as my husband removed all the mess on the surface I began to have the vision. Then my client decided she wanted it a beautiful yellow but when she got home her boyfriend said he wanted the red. She was pretty excited because she loved the red too! And they both wanted the dark wax.

Here is a close up of the finish that I did on it. I am now addicted to this red and the dark wax as a combo. I can’t wait to try another piece with this combination!

Notice the new hardware? Yes, it made this lovely sing! Here is the final product of this lovely dresser. I just had to sit back and stare at her because I couldn’t believe it was the same piece!

And my client loved it!! I mean, who wouldn’t? I’m still in love with this dresser and I’m still glad we picked this color. Why not have a red piece in your house?

Transformation Tuesday!

I love shopping at second hand stores and yard sales. You can find the coolest things. This dresser I spotted at a yard sale one Saturday and the sign said $15!! Score! I was on the hunt for a dresser for my boys room since their dresser was falling apart. So I jumped (literally) out of my car and instantly wanted it. Here were some pieces of wood broke off.

I didn’t take a picture of the side with the damage, but it only needed a little wood filer and some sanding. My son instantly announced he wanted it red! So I thought, why not?

This red was an instant success! I almost wanted it in my room! But the best part is that two young boys now have a rather large tallboy dresser with plenty of space in each drawer to store his clothes. I love the end result!

Don’t mind the mess all around. I tried to take a picture a couple of times in their room but the mess in this picture is much better because you can see the whole dresser. 😂

I can’t wait to show you what else I’ve painted this color! And wait til you see what the dark wax does to it. I can’t wait to show you!

Now, go paint something!

What to do with an old outdated dresser!

Who remembers your parents bedroom set with all the twists and turns andlarge hardware? Mine had a set very. Lose to his one and it was not only huge it was HEAVY! I remember the two. If mirrors and the stuff on top for miles. And they even had the matching side tables! I don’t know about you but the 70’s and 80’s were full of dark big furniture that seemed to consume an entire room. But, that was the style right?

Well, I’ve found a few pieces like that (See this post) and I’m addicted to changing them and giving them a whole new life. When you look at this piece so,stiles it’s hard to imagine anything other than this looming dark furniture that weighs a ton and takes up half the bedroom.

the essentials in life

(Crazy matching side tables – set of 2 of course😂)

My first thought was yellow like the last post because it turned out so lovely, but then I thought maybe a deep red. But the yellow kept coming to me because the red or blue seemed not right for this piece.

The next picture shows off do,e of the hardware. Doesn’t it just sing now?

Now the middle had three drawers but what I did was remove them and turn his lovely into a media console. My husband drilled 1″ holes in the back so the wires could be fed through for any game consoles, DVDs players, or DVR machines.

The best part of doing this is you can close the doors when they’re not in use and you don’t have to look at the wires or machines. Talk about removing clutter of the eyes.

Here is the finished product. She is stunning don’t you think?

the essentials in life

And all this was made possible by BB Frösch chalk paint powder and wax! This lovely set sold in 3 days! Turns out this yellow is a popular color and my client was so happy with how these pieces turned out. I can’t wait to show you my next project!

What a difference a little color can make!

I was looking online to find some dressers when I spotted this beast for sale! She was so hard to see in the picture and when I saw her in person I knew I could make her gorgeous! As I unloaded her and brought her home I started to have this feeling that she needed to be a bold color. Mostly because look at all the design! Something this ornate and unique needed more than white or gray. To me she was calling yellow!

The only problem with yellow is you have to pick the right yellow. So I color matched a yellow I found and the transformation began.

The best part about using BB Frösch is I can actually use any color I want and not be limited to certain colors. The one thing I did was used the dark wax to make this beauty look vintage. I have to be honest here, I’ve been so nervous to use dark wax that I literally had the same jar of dark wax for almost a year!  I’m kind of afraid of change and this was something new. As I began the process I was so skeptical of what I was doing that I actually texted my husband and asked if he liked it. He couldn’t tell of course so he thought no but I decided to just go for it.

This lovely piece has so many crevices that it made antiquing a dream! Just look at the picture below! It looks like it was always there don’t you think? And the best part is I loved each part as I finished it.

As I came closer to completion of this project I fell in love with it more and more. I had decided I wanted to keep it instead of selling it and once my husband came home and saw it he said we needed to keep it too! So, I sold a piece I had upstairs in the loft. 😉

And below is the final product! The best part about keeping her is I get to enjoy her every time I watch tv, sit on the couch, or walk through my front door! I’m still swooning!

And it makes my heart happy to change something into this each day! I think this is the biggest reason why I love painting furniture!

One fantastic custom order..

I sold a bookshelf I had repurposed and during the delivery the lady who bought it mentioned that she had a dresser she wanted to have painted so she could use it as a media stand.

We worked out a strategy and I returned a couple days later to paint this beauty. She chose a fantastic blue called Flashy Sapphire by Behr.

This piece was in really good shape and I got started right away. The best part about using BB Frösch chalk paint powder is the best.

I used my Homeright sprayer to complete this job and it was amazing!! It was so easy to use and I highly recommend it! Just Alena look at how awesome this dresser turned out!!

Can you believe it? This blue looked even better than I imagined and love how the pulls and handles pop now! Compare them from the first picture!! I did nothing to them, no cleaning nothing. I just reinstalled them. They look completely different.

A little light distressing per her request and this old dresser has a brand new look.

I love this color and I can’t wait to put it on another piece of furniture.

Now, go paint something!

Transformation Tuesday baby!

So I was sitting at home itching to paint something when I got a text from my sweet sister in law. She asked me if I wanted the furniture that they had in their garage. Um YES!! I seriously love it when I get these calls. It kind of gives me free reign as to what I’m going to do. So, they brought it over that night and I was SO EXCITED!!

The pieces I received were this dresser and the two side tables/night stands. Not too shabby, but in desperate need of an update I would say.

The inside and outside were lovingly worn but the pieces were solid so I had this idea and I went with it.

Aren’t these side tables cute? They’re quite large too!

Wait till you see how they turned out! I love to use chalk paint and I have discovered BB Frösch chalk paint powder over this past year and I’m hooked! Mostly because it’s way cheaper than the boutique chalk paint, which here in my town has gone up to $42 a quart! Living on one income makes buying paint at that price a complete luxury and not really savvy. So once I discovered the magic of BB Frösch I haven’t gone back. I love that I can buy any paint color and then mix it and voila! So, I spend $15 on a quart of paint then $10 on the chalk paint powder and I have as much as with the expensive boutique brand and I’ve spent about half the price! Win win!

Painting

I went to town with these pieces. It took a while because it’s a huge dresser and the side tables had a lot of drawers too. But look at the results!! *squee!!*

Total Transformation!

And the side tables look just as fantastic!

I actually painted the pulls as well! I am in love with the results! Turns out this was a hit and it sold the day I finished waxing it!

I fill custom orders too!

Not only do I love giving new life to my furniture but I love doing it for others as well. I do the following:

  • Coffee tables
  • Dressers
  • Side boards
  • Dining tables and chairs
  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Bathroom cabinets
  • Bedroom sets
  • And a whole lot more!

BB Frösch has changed my life!

I have to say that I love painting and transforming furniture. Well, I just love Kristen Smith over at BB Frösch she is just the sweetest person I’ve ever met. I love her and I love her product line.
You see, I have these wonderful friends who were transsforming their furniture with first, spray paint then second, they discovered the expensive boutique chalk paint. I loved everything they did but I couldn’t buy the paint that I needed on a teachers salary and bills to pay. I did buy some and I loved the results but I had to figure out how to get my hands on more money so I could feed my new found passion.

The very first project I took on was this hutch and the side tables that go with it. I painted the tables an antique white because I was going to paint the entire hutch that color because it was “safe”in my world.

This hutch is from Hong Kong and is just gorgeous. My lovely mother in law gave it to me because I had asked her about buying it from her. Don’t you just love the details? I’m so glad nobody else wanted it because I had a vision for it.

After painting the tables Old White I loved them but didn’t know if I wanted a hutch of this size in a blaring white. So I waited because I knew I was going to have to go buy more of that expensive paint.

These tables turned out great but I sanded them down after and it felt too planned. So for the hutch I wanted it to be more random.

They look lovely and it was easy but I wanted a little color because all my furniture was brown. I mean EVERYTHING. So after saving up I headed over to the boutique and forked over more cash. I was told that one quart would easily cover this hutch so I only bought one. (Btw, it didn’t take only one I actually needed to buy one more) I only put one coat on it so it would have some of the dark wood show through. Here is the hutch as a whole:

Now this hutch is big and it only took about two hours to paint. (I know this because I completed it while my boys were at scouts).

Here are a few up close shots (sorry the color is off in my pictures):

I’ve been asked over and over how I gave it the antique look. Well, I wanted to have an antique look anyway so I painted it lightly on. I learned it was faster and easier the painting and sanding. I’m all about easier. Haha

Now to explain how BB Frösch has changed my life. You see, I’m a bargain hunter with everything. I even did a 1 year challenge to not purchase any new items for my closet for one year-with the exception of under clothes and socks. I was challenged to purchase everything for my closet at second hand stores. I did it. And after that I was changed.

Don’t get me wrong, BB Frösch isn’t like going to a second hand store, it’s like the boutique paint at bargain prices. And it works just the same.
In this blog I will share with you my journey to transform furniture and to make it more beautiful.

Today I received my Jane.com order and I’m super excited!! It came with dark wax, clear wax and BLACK wax with a powder! I’m so excited about this new wax because it’s not available yet with the BB Frösch masters. I can’t wait to show you what I do with it.

Now, go paint something.

Is it trash or is it treasure?

My husband is the best! He has a second job and drives all over each night delivering pizzas to pay off bills. I love him for his hard work! And sometimes he finds me some sweet deals that have been tossed aside. So, one night he called me and said he found a coffee table that someone had set out by the dumpster and he said I needed to come look at it.

So, I drove over there and couldn’t help myself, I had to take it! It was SO HEAVY!!! I’m not sure how long it was sitting out in the elements but it looked pretty worn. But oh what a challenge! Below is the before and you can see I had already taken out the drawers. My husband had to fix them before I could paint.

Before I gave it new life

Look at the knobs, boring and dated…

Wooden pulls…

IMG_1365

After it was all repaired and cleaned up I decided on a color and went to work painting. I love, LOVE to use BB Frosch chalk paint powder in my paint. The main reason is because I can choose any color I want and the other very valid reason is it is much more affordable than the expensive boutique chalk paints. So the color I chose is called Night Club by Behr and it just transformed this entire table. This picture is after the paint but before I waxed and it just looks so much better already!

IMG_1366

The BB Frosch finishing wax is my personal favorite because I love the texture and consistancy of it so much! It spreads on like butter and it sets and cures within 15 minutes! Look at the difference from before and after!

IMG_1374

I had to get new knobs because the old wooden ones were just boring! But look how cute!!

IMG_1375

I love painting furniture and transforming it into something new! This lovely table sold before the wax was set but it sure turned out lovely, didn’t it?
